Scorecards

Learn how to use scorecards in JOIN to structure candidate evaluations, align team feedback, and make confident hiring decisions. This article covers template creation, scorecard submission, and tips.

Scorecards are internal evaluation tools used to assess candidates during or after different hiring stages. Suitable for evaluating candidates at any stage in the pipeline, they’re built on pre-existing, customisable templates and include rating criteria, as well as space for notes—helping your team to compare candidates objectively and efficiently whilst avoiding unstructured feedback.

Use scorecards in JOIN to evaluate candidates consistently and collaboratively based on replies to interview questions, job-specific attributes and overall impression. Scorecards help structure your interview process, align team feedback, and enable you to make confident hiring decisions.

Choose from a set of pre-existing scorecard templates or create your own in Scorecards.

Scorecard interface and features

When you create or fill out a scorecard, you’ll see a structured interface designed to guide interview feedback and ensure consistency across your hiring process. Here's what you can expect in the scorecard view:

Interview questions

At the top of the scorecard, you’ll find the list of questions assigned to the template. Each question includes a dedicated Answer and notes input field where you can enter key insights and feedback gathered during the interview. You can:

  • Answer questions in free-text format

  • Use rich text formatting options (text formats, bold, italic, underlined, strikethrough, links, etc.)

  • Add by clicking Add question button at the end of all questions

  • Remove question clicking the delete icon

Attributes

Below the questions, you'll find a list of attributes—such as Communication skills, Organisational fit, and Reliability. Each attribute can be rated using a 5-star system to help quantify your evaluation. You can:

  • Add more attributes by clicking Add attribute

  • Use star ratings to quickly summarise strengths and weaknesses

Overall impression

At the bottom of the scorecard, you’ll see a final evaluation section named Overall impression. This allows you to choose from 4 overall ratings: Definitely no, No, Yes, Definitely yes

You’ll also need to provide a summary in the Overall conclusions, pros and cons field. Use this space to outline your general opinion of the candidate, listing key advantages, potential concerns and other aspects of interest for an informed hiring decision.

Draft and publish options

JOIN automatically saves your input as you go. When you're ready, you can:

  • Click Publish to share the scorecard with your team

  • Click Close draft to save your progress and return to it later

  • Use Delete if the scorecard should be discarded (only available to the creator)

Only the team member who created a scorecard can edit or delete it. Other users will have view-only access.

Once published, your scorecard becomes part of the candidate’s overall evaluation and is visible in the Overview and Scorecard tab in the candidate profile.

Customise scorecards

When filling out a scorecard, you can:

  • Add, remove, or modify questions and attributes

  • Adjust rating scales or reorder sections

  • Click Configure to update the underlying template

This flexibility ensures you can tailor evaluations for each candidate without affecting historical data.

Only System Admins and Standard users can customise Scorecards.

View scorecard feedback

All scorecards submitted for a candidate are shown in their Scorecards tab.

If multiple team members submit feedback, JOIN displays:

  • Each individual scorecard, with the name of the reviewer

  • An aggregated average score per attribute across all scorecards

This makes it easy to compare opinions and make collaborative hiring decisions.

Only published scorecards appear in the candidate profile view. Drafts remain private to their creator until published.

Tips for using scorecards

Using scorecards effectively can significantly improve the quality and fairness of your hiring decisions in JOIN. By aligning your team on consistent evaluation criteria and capturing structured feedback, scorecards help reduce bias and make candidate assessments more transparent. Here are some best practices to get the most out of scorecards in your hiring process:

  • Standardise templates for specific roles to improve consistency

  • Use the same criteria across candidates to enable fair comparisons
