Learn how Smart Spend works, how to book it, and what to expect after your booking.

Smart Spend is a type of Paid Multiposting on JOIN that lets you define a budget for premium job promotion, which is then reviewed by JOIN’s Job Ad experts. Instead of selecting job boards yourself, your budget is allocated to platforms most likely to deliver strong results—based on the role, industry, and our extensive marketplace data.

This feature simplifies the process of promoting your job ad. You assign a one-time budget for a specific job, and JOIN uses internal data and marketplace performance to select the most suitable job boards to advertise on—based on your job's title, location, industry, and budget.

This eliminates the need to manually compare platforms or bundles.

Booking and allocation process

Smart Spend is only accessible and can be purchased within the job-specific promotion section—not from the general Store tab.

Steps to book Smart Spend:

  1. Go to the Jobs tab and select the job you want to promote.

  2. Click the Promote button (), or open the Premium job boards sub-tab by clicking the job.

  3. Use the Smart Spend slider to choose your budget. You will see minimum, recommended and maximum budget allocation indications according to your job.

  4. Click Add this budget

  5. Open Your cart on the top-right corner of the screen and click Proceed to checkout

  6. Review and update billing details if needed

  7. Choose your payment method and click Place your order

During checkout, you can click Edit to update your billing address, including optional fields like PO number or VAT ID. Changes made here will apply to your account’s billing profile for future purchases.

What happens next:

  • JOIN’s Ad Experts team reviews your job and budget

  • You don’t need to take any further action—platforms are selected manually and booked on your behalf.

  • The selected budget is distributed across platforms that are expected to deliver strong results for your specific job. The platform selection is based on several factors, such as:

    • Role and job title

    • Location and industry

    • Historical booking data and platform performance

    • Your defined budget

  • Selected job boards appear under Store > Bookings typically within one working day

  • Each platform may have a different runtime (e.g. 7, 14, or 30 days)

Once bookings appear as Pending, they usually go live within 24–48 hours. Runtime begins only once the job ad is published.


Finding your Smart Spend bookings

To view which platforms were selected and monitor progress:

  1. Go to the Store tab

  2. Click Bookings

  3. Open the Current sub-tab

You’ll see each assigned job board and its current status. Once a job ad is live and the the job platform confirms publication, the status updates from Pending to Active. When the promotion ends, it moves to the Expired sub-tab.


Booking manually

Smart Spend is a great hands-off solution, but it may not be the right fit if you want full control over where your ad appears.

You may prefer to book a premium product manually if:

  • You need to guarantee that a specific platform is used (e.g. LinkedIn or XING)

  • You are targeting a niche audience or industry

  • You want to apply a campaign or bundle with a fixed structure
